When the Wind Blows
“The cake will be burnt!”
Terrifying. Like, seriously terrifying. The way they presented the powerful transition between the cheery kitchen-sink cartoon and the harrowing display of nuclear fallout is seriously disturbing.
There’s just something so astounding about a movie when multi-media comes into use. Both hand drawn 2D animation and 3D graphics, and even going so far as to throw live action into the mix… it’s definitely a strong aspect.
I think what shines here the most is the excellent use of dramatic irony. My personal nightmare is seeing the couple assume life will simply carry on in relative normalcy.
I know of many anti-war movies and stories. Some of them are great. Some of them fall short. But When the Wind Blows is undeniably one of the better pieces.
