House
Absolutely psychotic. Dream-like coloring, even down to the plot and madness it leads to feels like a dream. Not to say that it’s just complete randomness, there is a message to draw here and I think I have a strong grasp of it. The concept of marriage is crucial in this movie, it is mentioned a multitude of times. We’re told the house eats unmarried women, which is why it targets our schoolgirls. When the girls go missing, the house literally strips them of their clothes, or what distinguishes them from the others, what makes them unique. I think this is commenting that marriage at the time forces women to conform to their husbands needs even at the expense of their interests or identity. We also see this reflected in how some of the girls die, their deaths as a sort of punishment for their unique qualities.
Mac- girl who has a habit of snacking a lot and loves food dies while trying to prepare a watermelon for her and her friends to eat.
Sweet- girl who still clings to her childhood, enjoying childish things. She becomes entranced by a doll and then dies.
Melody- girl with love for music and musical talent, gets eaten by a piano.
Kung Fu- strong girl with martial arts skills is killed after trying to defend herself and her friends.
This movie fucking rocks
