Train Dreams

Easily the saddest film I’ve seen thus far this year.
Joel Edgerton gives maybe the best performance I’ve seen this year.
I felt I was at arms length emotionally the first half of the film, but after that it really drug me in and I had teary eyes for the rest of the film.
The narration really worked for me, as it made the film feel grander and show the evolution of his life.
Life back then was so simple yet so devastating. People were dying from anything, and had no need or access to things far away like we do know, for example, he didn’t even know the moon landing or the space race for that matter was even happening till he glanced Neil Armstrong on a tv in the city.
Just a devastating depiction of a man’s life with commercial like breaks of happiness in between.
