Carol
Have you ever watched a film for the first time that was great and you were so moved? Then revisit it after a long time, loving it even more, being proud you had taste when you were younger? That’s how I feel about Carol.
Perfect holiday film. I absolutely adore the period pieces in this film. The cinematography is perfect with the holiday aesthetics. The acting in this film was outstanding. Cate Blanchett is of course amazing as always with her magnetic screen presence. Rooney Mara was super adorable in this film. Mara gave a very subtle yet powerful performance. Mara and Blanchett’s chemistry was phenomenal. What I love most about this film is it does not have a tragic ending unlike the majority of LGBT films. This film stands out because it has a very hopeful ending that allows the audience to interpret for themselves. This film is so beautiful and has such a cozy vibe. This film feels like a warm blanket. Sometimes to fully comprehend a film, it cannot just be through seeing and/or hearing but also feeling. I think having such a powerful and moving score helps. This was my first dose of LGBT cinema (gladly). Still my favourite LGBT film.
