Get Out
I want your eyes.
Really creeped me out the most because I know damn well some white folks think they're doing smt by gaining "perspective" from POCs.
Watching this with my sister really elevated the experience. Seeing her reactions as a first timer made me glad she has media literacy.
Not only this is a perfect film but it released at the perfect time. I remember watching it for the first time during the initial release. I was shook over Peele's directorial debut that was able to bring in quality entertainment value and showcase thought provoking true to life situations into one film. I watched this the second time for an English Literature class. I really enjoyed dissecting/analyzing/discussing that film, shows how cleverly thoughtful Peele is. Third time round, I am still amazed by this film.
Fetishizing is worst than direct racism. Super woke folks even tho you haven't known them for too long is smt to also keep in mind. And people wonder why I prefer to stay away being with a white dude... glad I never had interest in them either.
Having the token Asian man in the film finally clicked for me. Asian (not all) folks do see black folks as "concepts." I really don't want to go back to tht time two years ago with the whole BLM discourse bc the way some Asians contributed bothered me and made the community set back another decade. I am aware how the black community sees Asian folks and I don't blame them. Asians (not all) are anti black and try way too hard to assimilate to white folks but they will never be them. Some Asian folks really need to stop with their outdated and toxic mindset. I'm glad Peele sprinkled in the token Asian man.
Anyways, I hope I have a friend like Rod. Glad none of my friends are into white dudes so they definitely don't need to be saved by me. But no matter what, my sus white folk radar is always ON!!!
