This is the film for me of 2020. My most anticipated film of 2020 didn’t disappoint. Very touching story. The writing is perfect, absolutely wholesome. An emotional roller coaster. From the humor to the heart breaking scenes. Outstanding cast, no weak acting link. Steven Yeun deserves all the recognition due to delivering an excellent performance. Even David (Alan Kim) was such a scene stealer and super cute in this. This film tackles culture clash, the American dream and immigration. Capturing the blood, sweat, tears immigrants sacrificed just to live a comfortable life in America.
It’s a pretty American story to me… @HFPA smh… it’s just told in the narrative of Asian-Americans that the dialogue is in English and Korean which should still be valid as an American film considering it’s from A24… and America is literally a melting pot. Doesn’t deserve that “Foreign Film” category at the Globes.
This is The Farewell all over again tbh.
On a brighter note, my sister watched this with me which makes me proud of her for always wanting to watch these typa great films. A24 never disappoints. Makes me happy seeing a film production company truly caring about stories and storytellers. Not only just representation for minorities but stories that aren’t often told in film through an artistic lens.
