Autumn Sonata
"I like Ingrid Bergman, I'm sure Autumn Sonata will be a fun thing to throw on before bed"
Man is this movie great I felt incredibly emotional watching. Personally, my mother was also busy working through my childhood. But I was blessed in that she spent as much time as she could with me and made sure I knew I was loved. Unlike how Charlotte was.
In the ladder half of the movie Eva is confronting Charlotte on how she treated her, her dad, and Helena. Man Ingrid and Liv especially are such great actresses. I am happy Ingmar kept casting Liv in more of his projects. Both characters react very realistically, Charlotte is a terrible mother sure, but Bergman (both Bergmans lol) do a great job making you feel for her. I am not going to spoil anything so I won't go into too much detail.
Not to continue to glaze Ingmar Bergman, but it's insane how well he wrote the women in this story. It is hard enough to find well written female characters nowadays, but he was doing it in the 70s. Not to continue to glaze, but this movie was probably as close to perfect any movie hopes to get. So yeah, it's peak and yeah I am still crying.
