Malcolm X
This could possibly be one of the greatest biopics of all time, I would put it alongside Raging Bull and Schindler's List personally. I think it should be shown in schools as well. At least for me, I was taught in school that racism basically ended after the civil rights movement and only learned about MLK. It is disgusting the lengths the United States government has (and still does with the limiting of "critical race theory" or whatever) limit the education on leaders like Malcolm and the Black Panther party. Which is awful because they had an arguably greater impact than MLK. Historically, the only way to get the attention of the people in power is to make them uncomfortable/make them change/scare them. Which Malcolm and the Black Panther party did a better job at.
The movie was faithful to at least what I remember from the autobiography (it's been a while since I've read it). I also love that they included the trip to Mecca and his change of heart. A lot of people (purposefully) forget that. I also liked the inclusion of the CIA wiring and harassing his family, which did happen. They also killed not only Malcolm X but also MLK jr. I also liked the historically accurate portrayal of the Nation of Islam and Eli Muhammad's hypocrisy. It was cool to see his development as a person. Even little things like him apologizing to the lady in end for raising his voice were done well.
I don't think this movie could've been made by anyone else today. Denzel Washington was born to play Malcolm, he puts on an amazing performance and looks weirdly a lot like him. Spike Lee does a great job as well. I loved the scene in solitary confinement, the scene where he dies (spoilers my b), and the entire ending sequence were amazing. Especially the scene where Nelson Mandela is using Malcolm's teachings. It transitioned super well and everything. This is Spike Lee's magnum opus and I'm sad that it took me this long to watch it.
I think everyone should watch this.
