Persona
I'm convinced if you locked Ingmar Bergman in a room with nothing but Liv Ullman, some other woman, and a camera they will 10 out of 10 times make a goated movie.
I am not sure I fully get this one. Most of my confusion comes from the first 5 minutes. Is the boy supposed to represent Elisabet's son? What is up with the old film stuff? Maybe it's for aura? Like "hey guys, I can make a movie that feels modern in 2025 while filming it in the 60s and only using black and white and also only having like two characters". Also, what's up with the nail in the hand thing? It's clearly religious, but I am not sure how that ties into this movie.
So in the first half, I thought they were gay ngl. But as soon as the faces were put together I think I get it. They are supposed to be the same person I think. Alma is a construct Elisabet made up that presents her outer self. I think so anyway. Makes explains why the movie is called Persona I guess.
Other than story, this movie is absolutely gorgeous. Every shot is actually perfection. I think it was a great idea to shoot greyscale, it actually looks like something that could've been made today. How does Ingmar do it? Are all of his movies amazing? Is the the goat?
