Each actress gave the performance of a lifetime, especially Sally Field who portrayed her role with such intensity and passion that I laughed when she laughed and cried when she cried. Though I may never truly understand what being a mother is like, M’Lynn’s love for Shelby and her subsequent grief was so palpable, so visceral, I felt as though there was a piece of her within me.
