Blade Runner 2049
2017, this in theaters. Trying to figure out who or what I’m going to be. Trying to picture a world where I can be sober, where I can be a better person, where I can be myself.
And with my -little did I know at the time- best friend, I get to see this.
And I start seeing things, the love and death In my life, a little differently. I don’t think I’d have coped with the the shit going on in my world at this time if I hadn’t had this beautiful piece come along and remind me of the best lesson I ever learned.
Choice.
And I started, slowly, little by little, making some better choices.
Your mom dying is a weird thing, and it’s all the weirder when the previous year you lose 2 friends to suicide, so the woman who made it all hell all the time being gone feels like a relief. But at a certain point, with a little help you settle in and realize. Gone means gone. And you have to realize that. Theres no more discussions, arguments or abuse to be had. It’s over it’s gone. No more choices to be made.
Except what we do next.
Everything here feels so tangible, human, real. I hate this world and it’s because it reflects our own. So those tiny little moments that bleed through make it so much prettier.
Art isn’t the experience, art is sharing and an expression of experience. I’m beyond grateful that so many people here commited to something so personal and human. It really helped me when I needed it. It made me want to create, it made me write music and write stories and make our shitty little movies. It helped me be me.
This is one of the greatest films ever made, just for me. Thank you.
