Almost Famous
“See, friendship is the booze they feed you. They want you to get drunk on feeling like you belong.“Im currently writing this with tears in my eyes. Tears of profound joy and a deep wave of overwhelmingness. One of those rare films that feels like it understands what it means to fall in love. With music, with youth, with the chaos of growing up in a world that doesn’t slow down for you. Both a love letter to rock n roll and also a portrait of portrait of innocence slipping away, all wrapped in warmth, humour, and aching nostalgia.
The movie starts with a fucking Alvin and the chipmunks song, which really sums up the entire charm of the thing. So fucking funny and comedic.
Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Philip Seymour Hoffman especially PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN he is barely even in this yet those phone call scenes mean everything to me, what an actor. But my biggest take-way acting wise has to be Kate Hudson’s Penny Lane. How can she be so fucking stunning and a great actress at the same time? She embodies that mythical muse every artist dreams about but never truly understands.
Such a magnificent film about identity, innocence, and the inevitable loss that comes with growing up. It explores the blurred lines between admiration and exploitation, between authenticity and performance. William’s journey mirrors the experience of anyone who’s ever tried to belong to a world that feels just out of reach
That plane scene was fucking great too. And what a satisfying ending in the end.
Proof that sentimental as fuck movies can be phenomenal.
Perfect coming of age.
Will watch again.
Masterpiece.
