“The last time I saw this face was July 4th, 1969. I am very sure that's the man who shot me.”What an absolute fucking masterpiece man! A long and atmospheric slow-burning descent into obsession, paranoia, and the maddening hunger for truth. For the first time In ages, I have watched a thriller that has left butterflies in my stomach and sent shivers down my spine. This movie made me genuinely fearful of my life from the comfort of my own home. Every lingering shot, every ambiguous clue, every flicker of fluorescent light building a world where uncertainty reigns supreme.
The score is excellent. It creeps into scenes like a distant hum, just unsettling enough to burrow into your subconscious. Infecting each scene with dread before you even realise why you are uncomfortable. Haunting, truly haunting stuff. There are sequences in this film that induce pure, skin-crawling anxiety. That basement scene?! I swear I stopped breathing. Fincher orchestrates suspense like a sadistic composer, stretching silence until it’s unbearable and making even the most mundane moments feel like imminent death.
David Fincher has really really fucking perfected this genre hasn’t he?
I feel like I have been fucking suffocated for 2 hours and 40 minutes. I genuinely feel uncomfortable. Great ending by the way. Fuck me I need a warm bath.
Scariest movie I have ever seen.
