Barbie
After transitioning at a conservative frat/sorority focused school this felt like a reset button on my head for what it means to be a woman, and what womanhood means to me. Greta Gerwig genuinely challenges the line between the idea of being a woman and actually being a woman through this incredible plastic masterpiece. Hari Neff’s presence in this, and just seeing her get to be a regular woman with other women, is so healing while living in a world where trans women simply aren’t seen as regular women.
The montages and musical motifs are the hardest hitting part of this. Growing up as a woman who is expected to be a man is a fucking crazy experience, and the montages at the beginning of packing up girlhood and moving on to “grow up” because life gets hard hit it right on the nail for me.
Is it a perfect movie? No but it has so much heart that I don’t give a shit
