Looper
For as much good as I’m about to say about this I need to get two things out of the way:
1. I know they probably did the Joseph Gordon Levitt face editing to make him look more like Bruce Willis or something but it was so jarring in an uncanny valley type way that it honestly broke my immersion a little bit every time he appeared on screen after not being in a scene for a while
2. This had maybe the worst sound mixing of a movie I’ve ever seen. Probably due a little bit in part to me watching this on my TV while HDMI’ed into my laptop and the fact that my AC runs nonstop which also creates noise, but there were stretches where, without changing the volume, the dialogue was simply unable to be heard and the subsequent gunshots made me worried my neighbor was gonna call the police thinking they were real
Usually time travel confuses the hell out of me but for some reason with this I either just got past that and didn’t think about or it made a little more sense.
Using cuts in the skin to communicate with your future self was so cool even if it didn’t make a lot of sense. They also definitely pick and choose what is butterfly effected and what isn’t but it’s a movie. If that’s your issue with this you need to get off your high horse and stay away from me.
Aren’t they in the future? Why are their guns still so ancient? Their only two options were a blunderbuss or a flintlock? Seriously? Pirate weapons?
This fell so perfectly in the Sci-F/Drama pocket that I love without too much action for my taste and the action that was there was pretty good.
An actual decent child actor?!?! I don’t know maybe he still wasn’t very good but honestly I feel like he did just about as well as he could have.
Definitely wish I’d paid more attention to the first half but that just means an eventual rewatch will be better.
