In my opinion, the greatest film of all time. One of the most influential films of all time. A beautiful BEAUTIFUL masterpiece that shows how the Hollywood lifestyle can change someone and how fame can delude your mind.
Arguably the most important horror film of all time (which is good for us, because it isn’t actually scary). Absolute masterclass in cinematography, storytelling and suspense. If you’re going to play any horror film, Alien is the one to choose.
One of the most gut wrenching stories I’ve ever seen in my life. It shows just how magical theatre and acting can be, but also shows the struggles of the prison industrial complex.
Hands down the most well written movie of all time. It’s just two people having a conversation for 2 hours, and it will put you in a trance, making you never want to look away. If you want to teach about dialogue, this is the movie to pick
One of the greatest horror movies of all time, a masterclass in writing and John Carpenter's magnum opus. Will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. A fair amount of body horror, meaning if someone is squeamish, maybe this isn't the best pick.
If you want a high stakes, action packed crime movie that'll make your stomach hurt from laughing, Thelma and Louise is the way to go. Ridley Scott's best film and Susan Sarandon's (my favorite actress) best performance of all time.
If you want a good romance film, THIS IS THE ONE TO PICK. One of the greatest love stories I've ever seen in my life. Wong Kar Wai is one of the greatest directors of all time and this is his magnum opus.
The best adaptation of the greatest horror story of all time. Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece, and it somehow makes early 90's Keanu Reeves look like a good actor
Billy Wilder's comedic masterpiece. One of the funniest and most heartwarming movies of all time. If you want a classic comedy, this is the one to choose
The greatest classic film of all time. In my opinion, the first masterpiece of film. Will make you feel so much empathy and despair, it is unbelievable.
Wes Anderson's first truly great film. The true start of one of the most inventive and original directors of our modern era. A heartbreaking and side splitting comedy about familial love and respect.
One of the most inventive and original horror films of all time. Dario Argento's directing style is unmatched, and this has someone of the greatest cinematography I've ever seen in my life. The color grading in this movie is unreal.
You would think a movie about the life and death of Mozart would be boring, but NO!!!!! IT IS SUCH A GRIPPING AND ENTHARLLING FILM ABOUT JEALOUSY AND HATRED GRAHHHH I LOVE IT.
Admittedly, this might not be the best film for a highschool. Not because its inappropriate for school, but because I'm sure that many people will be opposed to a 90 minute, black and white film in Swedish about Death and religious doubt. However, if you want to teach about the history of film, this is a no brainer. One of the first real "artsy" films, and extremely crucial to the history of modern filmmaking and artistic cinema.
