This movie was insane. I went into the movie already knowing what to expect from Yorgos Lanthimos after watching Poor Things, but this movie still blew my mind.
Both Emma Stone as Michelle and Jesse Plemons as Teddy are excellent in this movie. They both play off of each other really well, especially when they argued in the beginning over whether Michelle is an alien or not. It was pretty funny seeing them arguing with each other with Michelle using CEO speak and Teddy using conspiracy theorist speak. Emma Stone's character was so convincing that I kept going back and forth between believing whether or not she was an alien.
Another thing that I loved about the movie is the camera work. I loved seeing the different angles throughout the movie. Also the movie feels more colorful than other movies that I've seen, and I feel like the bright colors really pop out.
This movie was tense. I felt so much anxiety from this movie, not just from Michelle trying to escape, but from Jesse Plemons spending time with Casey friend while she was under the basement. There were also so many scenes that I wasn't expecting, like Don shooting himself in the head and Teddy murdering Casey. I just felt so bad for Don because he just got roped into Teddy's beliefs because he's the only family member that he had. I also was shocked seeing that Teddy actually murdered two Andromedons prior to kidnapping Michelle. I didn't really believe that Michelle was an alien until after this scene. And even then, I was still doubting myself near the end where Teddy goes into the closet and kills himself by accident.
The ending where Michelle basically wipes out all of humanity was very shocking. The map of Earth being flat was a nice detail. It just shows that the aliens can't really save humanity because humanity just ends up destroying itself. That doesn't mean that she's not a terrible person though, because it's pretty bad to just destroy all of humanity based on the actions of one person. It makes her human role as a CEO fitting. She sees the humans as lesser than an disposable; the same way she treated Teddy's mom as an experiment to test out new drugs.
I'm glad I went into this movie with very little to no prior knowledge, because I ended up enjoying it way more than I expected.
