Twin Peaks is a series full of symbolism and connections on a grand scale, a rabbit hole, a dreamlike grotesque full of surrealism, which touches on important themes but at one point, people suddenly begin dancing and singing. Agent Dale Cooper is visited by the giant, who gives him clues in the investigation of Laura Palmer's murder and says "It is happening again." He begins having dreams in which he appears in "the black lodge," where a short man and other characters speak backwards. Every detail has hidden meaning and psychological implications (e.g., the characters' clothing). Director David Lynch leaves many issues open for a while, but he does so in such a way that viewers begin to develop theories. Thinking realistically and practically, the series distills the cruelty men inflict on women into a compelling narrative. Bob, who doesn't actually exist, is a personified symbol of rape, molestation, and trauma.
