Obsession
I can tell you now, if Curry Barker keeps this up, he’s going to be a legend in a few years.
Obsession is genuinely a powerful film.
From the strong use of light and dark in the Cinematography.
To it’s meticulously crafted tension and scares.
To it’s layered and nuanced script, with genuinely hilarious moments.
To it’s phenomenal simultaneously real and over the top performances.
Obsession is one for the ages. This is horror cinema at it’s finest.
This film is such a wonderful deconstruction of the romance genre as a whole and love as a theme in films, and the way we mistreat it’s representation. ‘True’ love will never be real love. Barker deconstructs the whole idolisation of true love(which one could argue is a critique at contemporary men’s standard being impossible instagram models) and argues that love ignoring warts is the ugliest love of them all. Love with warts is real.
I’m rambling, but what I’m getting to is that you should watch the movie. It’s really great.
