Novitiate
I don't think it was a sin because it didn't feel like a sin. It felt like how I was supposed to feel.
the convent becomes both a sanctuary and a prison, a place where devotion is celebrated but individuality (especially women) is often sacrificed.
what makes novitiate particularly compelling is its portrayal of female intimacy and longing with one another. this film understands that desire does not always manifest through explicit romance or sexuality; it emerges through lingering glances, restrained gestures, and moments of emotional vulnerability. it captures the tension between spiritual commitment and yearning, allowing me to feel the weight of emotions that remain unspoken.
the film resonates with me not because it offers a conventional narrative, but because it understands the experience of discovering one's identity within a church that demand silence.
