**«But you are much more beautiful than the rest. You are special.»

remi’s death took my heart out of my chest and leo attempting to navigate his life normally after it stomped on it.
the flower field symbolizing their friendship; colorful and lively in summer and a barren field leading up to the tragedy. when it was colorful, remi would run through it with leo, but in the barren field, leo looks back while running through it but nobody is there. it was also colorful again after leo and sophie’s hug, showing leo has accepted what happened and is allowing himself to feel the grief. the loss of the flowers/color is a reminder of the loss of closeness between the two.
the duck story threw me off a little💔 i felt that it was supposed to show how their bond as a “lizard and white duck” (remi and leo) was different than that of the yellow ducks (their peers) and the sky they reached through the trampoline represented a place where they were free of what other people had to say about their relationship. i’d also like to point out, leo asks his brother if he is awake the same way he asked remi if he was awake before proceeding to tell the story. however, he never told his brother the duck story. leo mentioned earlier in the movie him and remi were so close they were like brothers. i think this does a really good job at highlighting how special their relationship was. it shows their familiarity surpasses even that of a boy and his own brother
unfortunately, the second half just fell flat to me… i think that was the point, though. leo’s lack of outburst was an attempt to deny what people thought about him. after his classmates bully him for being “a girl,” leo joins ice hockey which to me, suggested he was trying to become more masculine. while talking about remi’s death in class, a boy in leo’s circle says he often cries out of anger as opposed to sadness. later, instead of being outwardly sad when he speaks, leo instead gets angry when a classmate shares their experience with remi. he saw the boy he saw as masculine felt anger, and in an attempt to also feel masculine, gets angry too. but i don’t know. it just wasn’t as moving as the first half which is what makes it not a 5 to me. i wish we could’ve looked deeper into leo’s thought process
leo and remi’s mother hugging shows them accepting what happened together and i can’t think of any better way to close out the movie. loved it🥹
