Carrie
‘That’s three words, bitch’
It’s more a villain origin story than it is a horror show but it’s really well made and tackles modern-day issues in a way that I haven’t seen done as well as this.
Summer Howell as Carrie is great and Alison Thornton really puts in an Umbridge-level performance. The title card changing and the mini intros to each episode are cool.
My biggest issue with this show is Emaline and the finale. I just really didn’t care for her and she had the most uninteresting relationship with Carrie out of all the other characters. The twist was kind of obvious as well and her whole involvement in the finale took away from it imo.
Speaking of the final I did like how they did it, bearing in mind I haven’t watched the original. The way the penultimate episode cuts to black with screams in the background and then goes into the finale in the same way the first episode started was good. And then the rest built some really interesting lore with Carrie aura farming on the side. My issue is, again, Emaline’s involvement but also how quickly it moves. Carrie losing it should’ve been gorier and more satisfying than it was and it just kind of felt rushed through. Would’ve been so good if after hearing Sue’s account of the event we saw like a 10-minute scene of her just merking everyone out of anger and embarrassment.
Overall it’s a well-written, engaging show with good characters and performances. It’s just the finale is a little underwhelming especially as everything was leading up to that moment.
