Prisoners
‘You’re right! It’s day fucking six! Day six! And every day, she’s wondering why I am not there to fucking rescue her! Do you understand that? Me, not you! Not you! But me! Every day! So, forgive me for not going home to get a good nights rest!’
Unbelievably great thriller that questions how far you would go to find someone you love that’s gone missing. Everything is so great. The score and cinematography is brutal. The complex characters. The tension and pacing is great. For a long movie I’m constantly engaged. The performances in this movie are so good.
Paul Dano’s unsettling but fragile. He seems innocent and childlike but there’s also just something off about him. The twist with him at the end is brilliant and is elevated by Hugh Jackman and Terrance Howard’s performances. They both represent the two sides of the line. One side blinded by rage where he then becomes unrecognisable, ‘that little girl is gonna need you when she comes home.’ And the other, suffering but doesn’t want to cross the line he can’t come back from, constantly questioning what’s right and wrong to do in a situation like this. Jake Gyllenhaal is so good too. His performance adds so much to the character.
What I also like about this movie is after the daughters go missing your constantly thinking of questions. Who took them? Where could they be? Why them? What would I do? Is what he’s doing right? And as more characters are introduced you’re asking more questions like why are they the way that they are? And then even in the end you’re wondering what’s going to happen to Hugh Jackman’s character. All round brilliant movie
