No Other Choice
I was able to see this early.
A dark, and surprisingly comedic rumination on choices, freedom, family, and what we must do in the face of tragedy outside our control.
Park Chan-wook combines truly beautiful visuals, one-of-a-kind framing and transitions, and to accompany all this, a haunting score, and stellar performances by lead Lee Byung-hun as well as Son Ye-jin and Lee Sung-min.
No Other Choice only asks questions; it does not provide answers--at least, not full ones.
It asks how one can compare suffering, and the value of disparate lives. It asks if ends justifies means.
But most of all, it asks if choices are choices at all.
