Dune: Part Two
As I thought, I really enjoyed this movie the second time. So much more symbolism and understanding on this rewatch than in the first watch. The aspects that bothered me last time seemed reasonable this time and the whole experience blew me away. I saw so much more symbolism, the Ferman losing their ways immediately as Paul becomes their leader. They are burning the bodies of Harkanans and Empire soldiers directly referencing the burning of the Atrades soldiers at the start of the time. They ignore the value of death and water that they previously held highly. Paul is leading them as an outsider with outsider goals, he is an Atrades, a Harkanen, and a Ferman. He is chasing galactic goals and revenge, the Ferman will be apart of him but he’s already losing his way. The whole film is beautiful but I knew that the first watch. My dialogue and character issues weren’t nearly as glaring, Stilgar was still a fanatic and still comic relief at times but it didn’t feel nearly as forced. Everything was planned and happened with reason, it wasn’t just randomness like it for some reason felt like the first time. A wonderful masterclass in film and science fiction. Loved it.
