Nightcrawler
10/10 ☆☆☆☆ || Lou pmo sm 😠 || ending made me mad
I don't really watch that many movies with a protagonist I dislike, but Lou's character was so annoying, creepy, and weird. I hate that nothing happened to him because of all the tampering he did at the crime scenes. Like this dude is crazy. But when I thought about how the police might look at his actions, what could he be convicted of? (Maybe I just lack info on the law, but there had to be something)
What really tied it all together was Jake Gyllenhaal, who is literally perfect for the role. His bug eyes and glare added to the character.
I don't know how to describe characters like this... how can someone lie so easily and have confidence in what they say? Or maybe he isn't lying because he believes everything he's saying is true 🤔 I don't know, but I kinda like how Lou talked in this movie. I haven't really seen a character like this. Like, the way he was able to snap back at every response someone gave him with complete utter confidence and witty-ness. It's like kinda amazing? or inspiring? Like, I kinda wanna reach that level of articulation when I communicate. (This makes me sound crazy)
Also, this was such an interesting perspective on how news anchors get their footage. I didn't realize that if you filmed an event, you could sell it to the news. But also, how did they not get a single ticket for speeding? One of those nights, the police had to have pulled them over 😭
BRO, I knew I felt it coming, I knew that they were gonna kill Rick, but dude. The fact that before, Rick told Lou not to film the other stringers who were hurt because they were one of them, and then Lou ends up filming Rick's death, which felt so violating, it disgusted me so much that I wanted him to go to jail for it. AND the fact that Lou fucking lied to Rick, telling him the guy was dead, OMGGG bruh Rick deserved so much better 😭 But I really liked how we go to see the extreme lengths Lou would go to if someone was in his way. Like the whole part when he said that Rick took advantage of him and would do it again, really adds to the character.
AND then the movie ends with him taking on THREE new interns with TWO new vans WTFFFFF!! Then he goes on to say, "I wouldn't tell you guys to do something that I wouldn't do," LIKE WTF, he shouldn't have gotten away with it! And I hated how he talked about his professional videotaping company like it was something big/there were more people.
But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this were to happen in real life because the press does some pretty shitty stuff just to get good news coverage. When I was watching the movie, it reminded me of this one story of how this dying news anchor was desperate to get footage that, when they got on the site of a person about to commit suicide, they were encouraging them to jump (this was before the police were there). Then, when the person jumped, they filmed it. Also, they had identified the person and got the victim's family's house before the police and began asking them simple questions until they told them that the victim was dead. Just so they could film their reaction. (This may have some inaccuracies, as I am retelling it from memory) But yeah, the press does some crazy shit. And this is just one story that we know of; think about how many tamperings go on behind the scenes.
Overall, this movie felt more centered on elevating the characters and giving them depth because the shots were pretty okay to me- they were more on the realistic side. But I really did like that scene where Lou was crashing out in the bathroom; that was good. But in the end, it was done so well due to the actors who gave these characters life. I also liked the music at the end (lowkey giving Donnie Darko), and it was kinda uplifting, like something you would use for a good ending of a story (like if the main characters won), but in this case it wasn't. Well, at least not for the audience, who are left unsatisfied by the lack of karma that Lou faced. But it was a good ending for Lou, who was able to get away with all of the immoral things he did and further grow his company.
