this was like, almost a decent movie. fun to see the SNL newbies have some fun

you would think a film consisting of an insanely hot cast, pretty flashing lights, cyberpunk set designs, thirsty bloodlust, and a hypnotic score, would be able to muster up even a modicum of eroticism, tension, intensity, depth, or interesting ideas anywhere within its runtime, but it fails to do so. the awkward pairing of its extravagant style and score only occasionally distracts you from that fact. I get what it's trying to do/say, I guess, (cyclical patriarchal violence? daddy issues? mommy issues?) but man is the execution so, so poor. I'm sure this will be enjoyed by some, either now, or retroactively later, simply due to its sheer weirdness, but as much as I adore weird shit in my movies, there was nothing stopping this from existing as anything more than a boring, neon, light-show, for me. it genuinely seemed like it was making fun of itself, at times, despite possessing little-to-no self awareness. at least, not any self awareness that came across in its writing. the cast and the trailers intrigued me, so greatly. I was surprised with how much I didn't enjoy this. Melton, Thatcher, Liu, and Calva all deserve better scripts. (Leatherman or Leatherface or whatever tf his name was looked like The Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming at times)

made my mom watch this with me. watched endgame right after. talking more about it in my endgame review. [Endgame Review](https://boxd.it/fpIxHl)

I watched infinity war right before this. I was watching it with my mom, who's a little familiar with marvel, but definitely needed me to aid her with both films in how all the characters connect. and just that simple task, made my disdain for Doomsday grow even more than it already was. it was so easy for me to explain to her how all these characters in this movie have unique, individual stories, and how they all relate to each other, or thanos, or the stones, or a mixture of the three. it was 10 years worth of stories that all, individually and coincidingly, led up to this moment. this threat. I genuinely don't understand how Marvel has gathered that what people loved about these two movies was just simply seeing recognizable faces. sure that's part of it, but it's the story that people loved. children to adults LOVE stories. my mom was able to cry to these characters and she doesn't follow marvel like that at all. the Doomsday trailer looks so bleak. random characters with no relationship to each other, the threat, or even the universe for that matter. bringing in 20 year old xmen characters that have nothing to do with anything???? like what is this story even about??? what is going on?? what means anything??? god the infinity saga for all its flaws was soooo good and impressive in retrospect. Spider-Man looks good. but Doomsday looks like a travesty. on top of it all, the Russo Brothers seem incapable of making a decent movie as of late, and are just sucking the cock of tech and AI companies. there is no world where I can imagine Doomsday being good.
