What Lies Beneath

My list for Letterboxd Showdown: What Lies Beneath Happy Hooptober, LetterBOOxd! For this week’s Spooky Showdown, join our black parade by conjuring a list of your ten favorite underseen horror films—hereby defined as fewer than 50,000 watches. The goal? To lift these forgotten cinematic spirits out of film-history purgatory and into your watchlists (a different kind of purgatory). If the prospect of digging up the graves of these ghostly gems is too darn scary, we have some tips, tricks and treats: go to your films, select the horror genre, sort by popularity, then scroll to the last page. Horrorville also has a handy list of Letterboxd’s official 100 highest-rated underseen horror films, our Journal contributors chose 24 of their favorites with fewer than 20,000 watches and we asked a murderers’ row of special guests for their picks—thank you to Freddie Prinze Jr., Mike Flanagan, the cast of Weapons and many more!
