Beautiful Boy
One of my, I don’t care, all the critics are wrong, this movie is excellent films. I think it’s gorgeously shot. It’s kaleidoscopic in its storytelling. It got dinged way back when for it’s somewhat non-linear storytelling, but I love that part of it and think it really works. It also got dinged for not having a real resolution. But addiction often doesn’t. And as a sober person with personal experience with the subject matter, it’s also (imho) one of the best and most accurate addiction narratives out there, and one of the only ones that really delves into how addiction is a family disease. And both Timmy and Steve Carrell are excellent in this film. The diner scene is still to this day one of my favorite scenes in contemporary cinema, and that scene alone is both one of Timmy’s and one of Carrell’s best on screen moments.
