Enemy
I want to draw two clear lines when talking about this film – one during the experience of watching it, and one afterwards.
While watching, the dominant feelings are confusion and inner chaos. You don’t really understand what’s going on or what the film is trying to say. That only hit me with full force during the final sequence – it felt like it was pumped into my brain all at once.
After the film, you’re left with question marks everywhere. You try to process everything in retrospect. And the more I think about it, the better the film becomes.
The fact that the opening quote – “Chaos is not real chaos. It’s a form of order you just haven’t understood yet.” – already lays out what’s about to unfold is so clever and satisfying.
This film is a true Freudian delight.
