Oppenheimer
I was pleasently suprised by this, as I am not a big fan of Christopher Nolan‘s films in general (even though I deeply respect the guy for his character and what he is doing for cinema) and despite his often times lackluster direction (for which he shoudn‘t have won an oscar IMO), this film is truly great.
This is in large part due to Nolan‘s screenplay which IS oscarworthy. The dramaturgy consisting of Oppenheimer‘s and Strauss‘s hearings is extraordinary, the cast is absolutely stacked, the score is mesmerizing and that 70mm texture is obviously gorgeous. However, the film is held back through Nolan‘s inability to write women and being cut way to fast by not allowing scenes to play out.
All in all, I do think that this is Nolan‘s best work though!
