The Shining
“Well you can rest assured Mr Ullman, that’s not going to happen with me”
The opening score is really good and gives off the eeriness of how isolated the Overlook hotel is. Also I really like that Kubrick incorporates foreshadowing in the way Jack behaves before actually getting aggressive such as his almost angry/ annoyed tone when talking to Wendy and Danny and also his stare over his family as they walk outside the hotel. Compared to modern horror movies that focus more on jump scares and scary ‘monsters’ this film may not be considered as a really scary film but throughout the whole film the massive yet almost empty hotel accompanied by Jack Torrance’s steady decrease into madness really adds a creepy and disturbing vibe to the film which has made the shining stand out as a classic for horror films. As well, the final scene with Midnight the stars and you is one of my favourite needle drops because it shows how frightening the hotel really is.
