Big Fish
to be a big fish, you cannot stay in the small pond.
his tales were unbelievable. things you don’t believe. but they were true—just stretched a little taller.
it’s the way if he had stayed in Ashton, he would have withered away. Ashton was too small of a pond for him. so he left with karl and when they got split up he found spectre.
spectre was a town with people who could only be described as stuck. he could have gotten lost in that pond but he couldn’t allow that for himself. so he left.
and in leaving, he opened the door for so much possibility. he reached the bigger pond. the circus, the war. each one stretched his pond taller and taller.
in the end, he’s on his deathbed and his son tells him one last story. how he’s let go. and it really happens that way but taller. the people in his tales show up and it is more solemn than the tale. but they’re real and they are there. and in the end when they meet these people they laugh and smile like it was supposed to be. how Edward’s river is.
