Whiplash
I absolutely love this movie and i can proudly say that this masterpiece has earned my number one spot. Before i start with my review you must know i played the way of jazz drumming for a very long time and my old teacher was a bit like Terrence Fletcher. My hits often needed to be perfect and the tempo exactly his way. I cant listen to a song anymore without drumming on my legs to the beat. It feels like a constant Rhythm flowing trough my veins, like blood normally does. Thanks to him i now have the urgent feeling to be perfect in many ways, even though I see myself as the exact opposite in every way.
The Film feels like a overdramatised version of my own life and passion on the drums.
The movie tells us about a young adult who wants to be great. His skills at the Drums are incredible and really hard to obtain. I LOVED J. K Simmons performance as the perfectionistic egoistic teacher who pushes people behind their boundaries and does not care if they are hurt by his rude comments. Miles wants to be best, and Terrance Fletcher only wants the best. The Problem between these two where the too high expectations, which lead to drastic events and nearly deathly experiences.
