Pan's Labyrinth
I just love the idea and concept of this film, Guillermo del Toro is one of the greatest visual storytellers out there. The practical effects are absolutely brilliant, creatures like the Faun and the Pale Man feel real not reliant on CGI but on pure imagination and craft. Although the movie had CGI it holds up pretty well. What really elevates the film though is the script it’s perfectly paced with perfect practical effects, a perfect script, and phenomenal actors. The only negative is the Captain Vidal stuff was not as interesting as the Ofelia and Mercedes stuff, although they both have very cool scenes involving war and practical effects with great writing, Captain Vidal is a perfect villain and the ending proves that with one of the saddest ending in cinema.
