The Stranger
If you liked Anatomy of a Fall you’ll either LOVE or HATE this
You need some real élan to make this adaptation, but this movie does it right. I love nothing more than something that captures the spirit original work but improves on the author’s faults.
The trickiest part of Camus was always his indifference to the Algerian question. This movie paints all that hypocrisy and tension clearly.
Favorite parts:
- Best part is definitely the scene between Marie and Djemila, a new and meaningful addition
- Priest scene is flawless
- Mersault is the perfectly acted Absurdist hero
- Insane visually. Best B&W film since Roma
Warnings:
- They went w no voiceover narration so can be a bit hard to access if you haven’t read the book. But read the book c’mon
- Clumsy and lacking in subtety in a very European way at times
