R.I.P. Robert Duvall This would make a perfect double bill with *Silence*. It is more kind to faith, but poses just as challenging a question. Duvall delivers an outstanding performance. The character is contradictory. He is a bad man, but he is a devout believer. Duvall fully makes you believe that each is true and never gives a reason to doubt the other, even if audiences on either side of the religious spectrum would prefer them to be mutually exclusive. You rarely see a character this fleshed out and subtly complex outside of a great novel.

The *Black Mirror*-ified *Everything Everywhere All at Once*, but not nearly as calculated and deliberate. The first half packs a solid punch. It’s funny and memorable and is good enough to justify the second. If the quality of each half was flipped, I could see myself giving it at least 4 stars. I just have a hard time understanding how the same person who wrote so many great jokes throughout manages to get this grating as it nears the finish.
