Michael
As a lover of his music, the music and performance segments carry this movie. Jaafar Jackson is great in this, bearing an uncanny resemblance at times especially during the performances.
But the rest of it is clearly an afterthought. The film does a terrible job of laying out a timeline of events we can actually follow and connect with. It's too stop-start and jumpy, just when something gets going we're met with a performance segment and the whole process resets. We never really get to be with Michael or understand how he's feeling, it just relies on telling rather than showing. The film doesn't really get under his skin or give any real insight into who he actually was as a person and the troubles and tribulations he had to overcome. Like they did with his animal obsession, why did they make that so prevalent throughout, as if this was to just push a certain narrative of him throughout.
Like watching a reiteration of Dance Moms or something.
Michael Jackson deserved better than this.
