Maximum Overdrive
so i was on my daily search for any new films for me to watch from the 1980s and i came across this one that was titled maximum overdrive from the year 1987 that was sitting in my watchlist for a while now and i just haven’t gotten the time to watch it until today and while i was relooking at it and reading the premise for it i’ve got to say that the plot for it was one that i tend to love to see in films because im someone who really enjoys these sorts of films where the citizens are being overrun or attacked by some creatures or evil machines and this one fit that exact category for me because the whole idea of these giant semi trucks coming to alive because of some comet that passes by earth and in turn makes them into these killer trucks out for human blood sounds like such a terrific plot for a film and also because this film was based off a stephen kings story which knowing how his stories tend to go for the characters in them and how dark and twisted king writes them out to be and just the scenarios they tend to be placed it i just knew that this one was also gonna follow that lead as well and it did because i’d be absolutely terrified if one the car that i was driving just came to life and then murdered me but moving onto the characters in this one and how i did love that they made them a group of survivors that you saw and rooted for the entire film and how vastly different they were to one another with there being your two main leads and then dick head who ran the gas station to the newly weds and also the young boy who was searching for his father who had been murdered by those same trucks to then the workers and regular customers of the gas stations which if i’m being honest i only cared for the main leads, the young boy and the newly weds because of how humorous they both were when they were on screen and so im glad all of them ended up being survivors and now moving onto the deadly vehicles of this film and how they were just your ordinary trucks there wasn’t anything special to them and anything that made them stand out unlike the main truck of the film which i loved the design of because it made itself stand out so much more from all the others and how i did kind of wish that the face that was painted on the front of it did come to life and speak because it would have made it alot more eerie to me but then again i did like how they didn’t make the face move because then it would have looked real cartoonish and not realistic even though the film wasn’t realistic with killer trucks coming to life but some people will know what i mean by saying ‘realistic’ because not having the trucks speak or any of that made it have that more unsettling atmosphere to it which i loved but i do also wanna say how i wish there was more deaths in this film like sure there was some that we seen but i would have like to see more of them with the trucks being out for blood and all like sure they were trucks and there’s not much death sequences you could do with them but still in the film we also see other appliances come to life and not only it being these trucks but not having a whole lot of blood in the film didn’t bother me all that much because it was still a fun and enjoyable film for me!
