recession filmmaking. blooper reel and dance party ending. i have such a headache the editor should be ashamed of himself. Clone Jeff.

unfortunately i have this evil gene within me where the more i hear about how good a movie is, the more biased i am against it. i thought this was engaging and fun but a bit politically confused. i really don't know what this film is trying to make me take away about revolution—that it's hard? that it's pointless? that it should be idolized? benicio del toro's character was the only one who truly resonated with me. he was the only one actively making a difference, and his attitude made sense. for the other characters, i wish i had been able to see who they were rather than musical montages. well-made film, i just don't know what it meant

all night long i built an imaginary life, of which he was the center. and i always gave that life, which was begun over and over and transformed a dozen times, a violent end. this is one of the most confidently created films i've ever seen. the mastery over images and structure is absolutely unmatched. i feel like i need to watch this 7 more times to fully entrance myself in it. i hope to have an ounce of this talent and vision. SHOUT OUT TODD!! i will go see your gay noir movie if it ever comes out :(

wish i had watched this at age thirteen to truly experience it
