OH MY GOD I GET IT EVERYONE DIES!!! the second half of this movie is so anxiety-inducing, once the assassination attempt starts it just escalates... and then keeps escalating... and then never stops escalating... in a way i certainly appreciated how it subverted the typical "plot mountain." instead of rising and falling gradually, it just keeps rising and then abruptly stops and drops you off a cliff! (maybe this is my fault) but the poster makes this film seem very artistic. somehow i was expecting imagery and storytelling more similar to *the captain* or something along those lines. suffice to say i was a little disapointed when it was not like that at all. i thought the cinematography was average and the first half of the movie, where not too much happened in the grand scheme of things, didn't help much. is this my fault for being disapointed when my assumptions werent real?? probably

[watchlist shuffle challenge](https://letterboxd.com/definitelyara/list/watchlist-shuffle-challenge/) a story of taiwanese history and suffering, told not through epic battles or dramatized political play-by-plays, but through the quiet moments in the lives of ordinary people. i think this film is even more profound knowing it is the first *ever* to openly portray the KMT government's actions in the wake of their entrance into taiwan. unfortunately, i dont think any review i could write as of right now could do this movie justice, as i very quickly became lost on each of the character's names (LOL). one day i will absolutely give it another shot
