Death Proof
(14/31 Horror movie a day 2025) I chose this movie because I knew it was going to be a fun pick that i can just toss in to break up the rest of the movies later in the list (The Witch, Tetsuo Onibaba etc.) with something a little more fun. The first and second half of this movie is like night and day (quite literally too) with the first half being a classic horror movie and the second half being a fun car showdown starring 4 badass women. When watching this movie you'll notice how this movie was filmed, its set in the present time (2007) but looks like something that would come out from the late 70s or early 80s. This isnt just because Tarantino used film cameras, it was the locations, the wardrobe the characters wear, the vehicles used, the only times I was pulled out of this illusion would be when someone pulled out a flip phone or ipod. Tarantino scratched the film itself and snipped some scenes out at the right moments makes it feel more like this movie was recovered from an bankrupt movie studio. Kirk Russel's acting in this movie, being a psychopathic old stunt driver who kills young girls using his car, is fucking amazing. Its not like I'm rooting for him, but he makes the movie so much more fun. In the second half of the film Tracie Thoms becomes a perfect foil for Russel's character, her also being a stunt driver. This movie is honestly underrated from Tarantino, and its really fun to watch, i wasn't bored for one second.
