Nosferatu
(17/31 Horror movie a day 2025)Eggers has gone 2/2 for me. As someone who actually watched the original last year, this is the most perfect remake ever. This film is so beautiful and visually stunning. The color palette in this is so artistically well done, during moonlight scenes, the moonlight is white and blue, with the blacks/shadows deepened heavily, making characters look like they are completely engulfed in the darkness, and you never see any background or characters lurking in the shadows. It makes the movie feel as though its in black and white. One thing Eggers did fucking perfectly was paying homage to the most iconic scene from the original- the shadow scene. Here Eggers uses Nosferatu's shadow to reflect his movement, in the form of a dark claw outstretched to get its victims. It represents the affliction he can put on people in the movie. Lily-Rose Depp's acting was the definite highlight of the movie though, her emotion is so raw- she can act so mentally mad in 1 second, then completely flip a switch. There's one scene in this movie where she completely silences a room with her raw full-throated dialogue, its amazing. Bill Skarsgard plays another peak horror villain, making nosferatu truly unique with his portrayal. His voice has an animalistic hunger to it at the start, which is satiated later throughout the film, and its just so perfect. Its crazy jumping from Eggers' first feature film to his newest, because in this he has perfected his craft. I wish i couldve saw this in theatre because this movie is fucking great.
