Perfect Blue
Im so glad I finally got to this movie, its been in my watch list for like a year now. My first thoughts when watching this movie is that it shows how being a pop star, especially in japan, can have its dangers both physically in the real world and mentally. Those were themes that were perceived to me when I watched the movie, and I thought the twist ending was alright but left me confused but I think I understand the themes now. The main theme of this movie is about coming of age/ growing up as mainly a young woman. The main character Mima is stuck between two different versions of herself, her Idol more "childish" version of herself and her mature self who is an actress. Both of these versions of herself come with their downsides, with it leading to her having a mental breakdown. Her character arc through this movie is absolutely amazing, and a lot of look back on the final act and think its confusing or bad, but I think its actually really solid because it is a really good twist that plays on the theme of the movie through the antagonists that Mima. I really want to give more detail on this movie (I deleted like 1/4 of this review) on explaining the themes or characters but that will drop a decent amount of spoilers I quite think its better if you watch yourself with I just said in mind, the movie isnt quite scary or gorey, so I would recommend this movie to most people.
