Possession
(21/31 Horror movie a day 2025)This movie a really nice allegory for divorce and disintegrating marriages, with the movie starting out with them thinking they are cheating on one another, and throughout the movie, their fights get increasingly more erratic and deranged. This movie is scary to me not because of any monsters or tension, but how I can pull on my own experiences as a child through the main characters in this movie. The ending in this movie is so strong for me because once again I can relate to it, it represents the pain that children go through during these quite messy divorces. The acting in this moving exceeded my expectations greatly man, Isabelle Adjani fucking delivers above and beyond in this movie, you don't see many actors go this far while in a horror movie role. I like how in this movie it showcases that even if you get the opportunity of the ideal partner you want, some people might prefer going back to the toxic relationship they had, I think the fact this movie was filmed in berlin while the berlin wall was still up adds to the the despair in the settings in the deterioration of the relationship, you can feel paranoia and separation throughout the entire film
