Stalker
You can't be happy at the expense of other's unhappiness.
I have no clue where to start, but I will try to reflect my view on this movie.
I think the movie is a masterpiece and there are several reasons for that. The first thing that strikes me is that there are so many beautiful images and the world in the zone is really beautifully portrayed with vivid colors. Unlike the sepia-toned life in Russia, the zone seems like a completely new world.
The stalker who leads the other two guests through the zone knows exactly where they can and can't go, because otherwise they will most likely die. However, in the whole film there is not a single scene where this prophecy is shown, because after the warning the men always go back and nothing really happens, but that's exactly what's interesting.
Without saying much more about the story, what I like most is the theme of faith and the increasingly unbelieving society that the stalker often criticizes here. It's really difficult for me to write a review, because not much happens in the film over the entire three hours. But Tarkovsky put a lot of thought into each scene and you can interpret so much into it for yourself. I think that this socially critical work is one of the most important works in film history.
Even though it's probably not fun for most people to watch.
