So fucking bleak. Perfectly captures the same feeling of hopelessness and despair found in King Lear, especially in the final scene with the image of Buddha. Immediately became one of my favourite endings to a movie. So simple but so good, partly in thanks to the themes of the original play being illustrated so well and integrated so effectively into this samurai adaptation.
