1917
Wow, what a unique and brilliant movie, I don't think I have ever felt so submerged into a movie before. It felt like I was up there with them, racing against the clock so save hundreds of lives.
There is no denial 1917 is a cinematic masterpiece. The way these long takes constantly follow the protagonists really emphasise the importance of their journey. Together with absolutely fitting music it enhances this film to another level.
The only thing that kept me from giving this a perfect rating was the plot armour. There were just too many times where I had to sit back and roll my eyes because they survived something that would never happen in real life. I know it's the entire point of the movie, but in my eyes if you manage to get around plot armour and enhance the film's realism, then you get a perfect 5/5 rating.
Nevertheless Sam Mendes did an amazing job portraying the impact of the war, especially at the end. The film definitely moved me emotionally and that's my cue to know I really enjoyed it.
