Superman
I think this is one of if not my favorite superhero movie ever, I mean this lived up to the insane hype and more for me. Such a breath of fresh air not only for the current superhero movies but also movies in general. Most movies that make an impactful statement about the world have to do it in an understandably dark sort of way, but this movie was able to do it in a much different light and instill hope in the audience.
I really liked how this movie wasn’t afraid to address real world conflicts, with Boravia and Jarhanpur clearly representing the current conflict between Israel and Palestine. It also went one step deeper by revealing that Luthor was behind the entire war, showing that these situations are always caused by higher up politicians and powers who then send in their people as pawns to fight for them.
I have heard some people say that Lex’s hate seemed unrealistic and undeveloped, but I think that was the point. His pure, unreasonable hatred for Superman was fueled by jealousy, with Lex himself even admitting that. Through an exaggeration, this showed how jealousy can consume a person and make them think illogically and do everything Lex did just to take Superman down. Also I know they’re not that similar but this arc did remind me of Salieri in Amadeus(Can you tell I like Amadeus).
A big theme that I noticed throughout the movie was a reoccurring idea that man’s worst enemy is man. There are two huge monsters in the movie, and they are both killed within ten minutes, but the battle between man and man lasts the whole movie. There is Boravia invading Jarhanpur, man fighting against man on a battlefield. We have the world’s media constantly finding someone to blame, man fighting against Superman(man) through a screen. And lastly, we have Superman fighting himself. Throughout the whole movie we only see one person match and even once beat Superman, and that is himself. The threat is never some big alien, but humans fighting against each other.
Overall this movie was amazing, the dialogue was great, and the exchange between Clark and his father was amazing. I loved the aesthetic of the movie, it was such a rejuvenating experience having such a colorful film on screen. Also, I heard Guy Gardner getting hate and I have no clue why because I LOVED him in this movie. DC please let James Gunn direct more he cooked with this🙏🙏
