Midsommar
Feel like it came sooo close to being actually perfect, but some elements of it just didn't quite work for me. There's a couple scenes (Chidi's death in particular) that just don't quite work for me.
But god this movie just nails being deeply uncomfortable to watch. The first half especially makes me just want to curl up into a ball. There's so so so much tension, both interpersonally and with the festival, but it all feels small and real and uncomfy and it's very well executed. It doesn't quite work as well in the second half, once the tension snaps it couldn't keep me as engaged as I was in the beginning. But god damn there's still a LOT to like here.
If I were to have one really really specific critique, I loved the fact that some lines were deliberately unsubtitled, I wish they did that with literally everything that was in Swedish. The selectiveness took me out of it. Like oh now I understand Swedish because the dialogue being spoken is exposition? Sure bud, whatever.
